Playstation 3 Cell Processor

he setup of the Cell processor is like having a team of processors all working together on one chip to handle the large computational workload needed to run next-generation video games. In order to understand how the Cell processor works, it helps to look at each of the major parts that comprise this processor.

The "Processing Element" of the Cell is a 3.2-GHz PowerPC core equipped with 512 KB of L2 cache. The PowerPC core is a type of microprocessor similar to the one you would find running the Apple G5. It's a powerful processor on its own and could easily run a computer by itself; but in the Cell, the PowerPC core is not the sole processor. Instead, it's more of a "managing processor." It delegates processing to the eight other processors on the chip, the Synergistic Processing Elements.

The computational workload comes in through the PowerPC core. The core then assesses the work that needs to be done, looks at what the SPEs are currently processing and decides how to best dole out the workload to achieve maximum efficiency.
The SPEs used in the Cell processor are each SIMD (Single Instruction, Multiple Data), 128-bit vector processors. Vector processors are designed to quickly process several pieces of data at once. They were commonly used in the 1980s in large, powerful, scientific supercomputers and were created as a faster alternative to the more common scalar processor. Scalar processors can only work one data element at a time. Despite this limitation, advances in scalar design and performance have made the use of vector processors very rare these days in most computers. However, because of the vector processor's ability to handle several data elements at once, IBM resurrected this design for the Cell. There are eight SPEs on the chip, but only seven of them handle processing. The eighth SPE is built in as redundancy in case one of the other seven fails.

The SPEs each come loaded with 256 KB SRAM. This high-speed memory helps each SPE crunch numbers quickly. The SPE memory is also visible to the main Processing Element. This allows the PowerPC Core to utilize the resources of each SPE in the most efficient way possible. All of this amounts to unprecedented power for a piece of consumer electronics.

Sony designed the PlayStation 3 to be more than just a video game console. It supports all kinds of digital entertainment and is basically a home-entertainment computer. This computer sports a specially designed CPU called the Cell processor. Sony, Toshiba and IBM worked together to develop the Cell processor. It's their answer to the growing trend toward multi-core processing, in which manufacturers place as many processors as possible onto one chip. The Cell processor is scalable for different performance needs. The one used in the PlayStation 3 crams 234 million transistors onto a single die. For comparison, one of the most powerful desktop PC CPUs available in 2005, the $1,000, dual-core Pentium Processor Extreme Edition, just barely breaks the 200-million-transistor mark.

The Latest Information on Play Station 3

Playstation 3, the third in the Playstation series, is Sony’s seventh generation era game console.

Users of Playstation in Japan and the United States will not have to wait much as the Playstation 3 will be released on November 2006. However, for those in Europe and Australasia, they have to wait until March 2007 for the release of the PS3. Reports say that this has been so because of the scarcity in the production of diodes which are used in Blu-ray optical drives.

The Playstation 3 will be released in two types of configurations. The first type includes a 60-GB internal hard disk, memory card readers, and Wi-Fi support. The second version does not have the Wi-Fi feature and memory card, and is designed only with a 20-GB hard drive.

Aside from the 20-GB or 60-GB console, a PS3 package contains the following units: 1 controller, 1 Ethernet cable, 1 power cable, and 1 USB cable.

Sony has announced in their news that Playstation 3 will be supporting a mouse and keyboard play — something PC gamers will surely welcome. The mouse and keyboard shall be connected to the PS3 console via the USB. However, it is still not clear whether any USB mouse or keyboard can connect to the unit console, or if only selected peripherals will be allowed. Moreover, Sony posted that Playstation Portables shall connect to PS3 by means of Bluetooth. The PSP may act as remote controls for the console. With that, PS3 gamers can browse folders and files without having to leave their seats. In addition, films and photos can be transferred between the two gadgets. However, the PSP cannot operate as a PS3 controller.

Game enthusiasts and Playstation lovers have always wanted to be up-to-date with the latest stories, particularly with the Playstation 3.

Recently, the Sony Corporation warned the public of potential scams for the just upcoming game console. Sony told the public to be careful with pre-orders using the internet.

The report of Sony stated that various web sites make use of discounts and other promotional offers as their bait to possible customers.

Sony, however, did not specify which web sites participate in such scams. They advised the possible buyers to be careful when pre-ordering online and to buy online from registered and authorized sellers.

On other news, Sony has released a record of its window game titles. The games listed are expected to be launched within the first six months. Some of these titles include:

* Fight Night Round 3
* Full Auto 2: Battlelines
* Call of Duty 3
* NBA 2k7
* Genji: Days of the Blade
* Resistance: Fall of Man
* Sonic the Hedgehog
* F.E.A.R.
* Marvel: Ultimate Allliance
* Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII
* Untold Legends of Dark Kingdom
* Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
* Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
* Tom Hawk’s Project 8

Another recent story reports that Sony disclosed that the SIXAXIS, PS3’s wireless controller, would come with non-removable batteries. This means that when the batteries are depleted, the users would have to buy another. Of course, this has raised controversies since the controllers are expansive.

In defense, a spokesman of Sony stated that their controllers are equipped with the most advanced Lithium Polymer batteries. As such, the battery life is projected to last many years. They guaranteed that in case of failure of their items, Sony will provide service for the items.

Profitable Review For Xbox 360 Vs PlayStation 3 Today

The PlayStation or the Xbox: which will success? Right is one of the greatest rivalries of the gaming sphere, and the latest round - Playstation 3 vs. Xbox 360 - will away impersonate upon us.The PlayStation 3 will opening launchin...

Play Station 3 Reception

The PlayStation 3 received generally unfavorable reviews soon after its launch, with many websites and reviewers criticizing its high price and lack of quality launch games.[169][170] However, after a series of price revisions, Blu-ray's victory over HD DVD,[171] and the release of several well received titles, the system received better reviews.

The PS3 was given the number-eight spot on PC World magazine’s list of "The Top 21 Tech Screwups of 2006," where it was criticized for being "Late, Expensive, and Incompatible."[172] GamesRadar ranked the PS3 as the top item in a feature on game-related PR disasters, asking how Sony managed to "take one of the most anticipated game systems of all time and — within the space of a year — turn it into a hate object reviled by the entire internet", but added that despite its problems the system has "untapped potential."[173] Business Week summed up the general opinion by stating that it was "more impressed with what [the PlayStation 3] could do than with what it currently does."[174]

Despite the initial negative press, several websites have given the system very good reviews. CNET United Kingdom praised the system saying, "the PS3 is a versatile and impressive piece of home-entertainment equipment that lives up to the hype ... the PS3 is well worth its hefty price tag."[175] CNET awarded it a score of 8.8 out of 10 and voted it as its number one "must-have" gadget,[176] praising its robust graphical capabilities and stylish exterior design while criticizing its limited selection of available games.[177]

In addition, both Home Theater Magazine and Ultimate AV have given the system's Blu-ray playback very favorable reviews, stating that the quality of playback exceeds that of many current standalone Blu-ray players.[178][179] Also, the Convergence Panel of the European Imaging and Sound Association recognized the PS3 as the best media center product in the 2007/2008 award year.[180][opinion needs balancing]

Hexus Gaming reviewed the PAL version and summed the review up by saying, "...as the PlayStation 3 matures and developers start really pushing it, we’ll see the PlayStation 3 emerge as the console of choice for gaming."[181] At GDC 2007, Shiny Entertainment founder Dave Perry stated, "I think that Sony has made the best machine. It's the best piece of hardware, without question."[182] A second review of the PS3 by Ars Technica in June 2008 gave the console an overall mark of 9/10, while the original launch review marked only 6/10.[183]

Stereoscopic 3D

n December 2008 the CTO of Blitz Games announced that they would bring stereoscopic 3D gaming and movie viewing to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 with their own technology.[166] According to Blitz Games, SCE confirmed that they intend to support stereoscopic 3D games and Blu-ray movies and that the functionality will be introduced to the PlayStation 3 via a firmware update in 2009.[167] This technology was first demonstrated publicly on the PS3 in January 2009 at the Consumer Electronics Show. Journalists were shown Wipeout HD and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in 3D as a demonstration of how the technology might work if it is implemented in the future.[168]

Games

The PlayStation 3 launched in North America with 14 titles, with another three being released before the end of 2006.[148] After the first week of sales it was confirmed that Resistance: Fall of Man from Insomniac Games was the top-selling launch game in North America.[149][150] The game was heavily praised by numerous video game websites, including GameSpot and IGN, both of whom awarded it their PlayStation 3 Game of the Year award for 2006.[151][152] Some titles missed the launch window and were delayed until early 2007, such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, F.E.A.R. and Sonic the Hedgehog. During the Japanese launch, Ridge Racer 7 was the top-selling game, while Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire also fared well in sales;[153] both of which were offerings from Namco Bandai. The PlayStation 3 launched in Europe with 24 titles, including ones that were not offered in the North American and Japanese launches, such as Formula One Championship Edition, MotorStorm and Virtua Fighter 5. Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm were the most successful titles of 2007,[154][155] and both games subsequently received sequels in the form of Resistance 2 and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift.[156][157]

At E3 2007, Sony was able to show a number of their upcoming video games for the PlayStation 3, including Heavenly Sword, Lair, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Warhawk and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune; all of which were released in the third and fourth quarters of 2007. They also showed off a number of titles that were set for release in 2008 and 2009; most notably Killzone 2, Infamous, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, LittleBigPlanet and SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation.[158] A number of third-party exclusives were also shown, including the highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots,[159] alongside other high-profile third-party titles such as Grand Theft Auto 4, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Assassin's Creed, Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5. Two other important titles for the PlayStation 3, Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, were shown at TGS 2007 in order to appease the Japanese market.[160][161]

Sony have since launched their budget range of PlayStation 3 titles, known as the Greatest Hits range in North America,[162] the Platinum range in Europe[163] and The Best range in Japan.[164] Among the titles available in the budget range include Resistance: Fall of Man, MotorStorm, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Call Of Duty 3, Assassin's Creed and Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

As of the December 31, 2008, there have been 155 million games sold for the PlayStation 3.[165]

PlayStation Portable connectivity

Main articles: Remote Play and PlayStation Store (PC) for PSP

The PlayStation Portable can connect with the PlayStation 3 in many ways, including in-game connectivity. For example, Formula One Championship Edition, a racing game, was shown at E3 2006 using a PSP as a real-time rear-view mirror.[144] In addition, it is possible to download PlayStation I games to the PlayStation 3 from the PlayStation Store. These games were not originally playable on the PS3. They could only be sent to a PSP, and played using the PSP's PlayStation Emulator. Sony added support for playing downloaded PlayStation I titles on PS3 on April 18, 2007, with the update to firmware revision 1.70.[145][146]

Sony has also demonstrated the PSP playing back video content from the PlayStation 3 hard disk across an ad-hoc wireless network. This feature is referred to as Remote Play located under the browser icon on both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable. Remote play has since expanded to allow remote access to the PS3 via PSP from any wireless access point in the world.[147]

PlayStation Home

During the 2007 Game Developers Conference, Sony announced PlayStation Home, a virtual community-based service for the PlayStation Network. Home allows users to create a virtual avatar for their PlayStation 3 system.[136][137] Avatars will have their own apartment, known as a "HomeSpace", which can be decorated with items that users can either purchase or receive following various achievements attained from certain games.[136] In the future the service will expand, allowing players to choose from a wider variety of clothing, as well as pets.[137] Home is a Second Life-like experience that allows PlayStation Network users to interact in a virtual world,[138] and acts as a meeting place for users that want to play multiplayer games with others.[138]

A closed beta began in Europe from May 2007 and expanded to other territories soon after,[139] while an open beta was scheduled for availability in October 2007.[138] However, at the 2007 Tokyo Game Show, Sony delayed the release of Home to "Spring 2008",[140] and again on April 21, 2008, this time until "Fall 2008".[141] SCEI President and Group CEO Kaz Hirai later stated that the launch was delayed for further testing and feedback evaluation to provide the best possible experience upon launch.[142] The open beta was released on December 11, 2008[143] and is accessible to all PlayStation Network users free of charge directly from the Xross Media Bar (XMB), without the need of a firmware update or PlayStation Store download.[137][138]

Play Station Network

Sony announced a unified online service for the PlayStation 3 system at the 2006 PlayStation Business Briefing meeting in Tokyo.[124] Sony also confirmed that the service will always be connected,[125] free,[126] and include multiplayer support.[127] When the network launched, the registration interface could only be accessed through the PS3 or PSP system interfaces.[128] This has been changed since to allow users to sign up from the Playstation Network website.

At the Tokyo Game Show on September 21, 2006, it was revealed that users will be able to download some of the thousands of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 titles from the PlayStation Network for about US$5–$15, starting with those with the smallest game data.[129]

On May 8, 2007 Sony Computer Entertainment announced PlayStation Network Cards,[130] a form of electronic money that can be used with the Store. PlayStation Network Tickets, available in units of 1,000, 3,000, 5,000, and 10,000 yen, can be purchased at convenience stores throughout Japan.[131] Each ticket contains a 12 alphanumeric code which can be inputted to the PlayStation Network to place credits in the virtual wallet.[132] The tickets are available through electronic kiosks at 26,000 convenience stores, including Lawsons, Family Mart, Daily Yamazaki, Ministop and Sunkus.[133] They are also available at 26,000 post office ATMs, although registration is required first at a special mobile website.[133]

A similar PlayStation Network Card system based on actual cards instead of tickets was introduced in South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan in Summer 2007[134] and in Spring 2008 in North America.[135]

Play Station 3 Graphical User Interface

The PlayStation 3 version of the XrossMediaBar (pronounced Cross Media Bar, or abbreviated XMB) includes nine categories of options. These are: Users, Settings, Photo, Music, Video, Game, Network, PlayStation Network, and Friends (similar to the PlayStation Portable media bar). The PS3 includes the ability to store various master and secondary user profiles, manage and explore photos with or without a musical slide show, play music and copy audio CD tracks to an attached storage device, play movies and video files from the hard disk drive, an optional USB mass storage or Flash card, or an optical disc (Blu-ray Disc or DVD-Video), compatibility for a USB keyboard and mouse, and the web browser supporting in/compatible file download function.[118] Additionally, UPnP media will appear in the respective audio/video/photo categories if a compatible media server is detected on the local network. The Friends menu allows mail with emoticon and attached picture features and video chat which requires an optional PlayStation Eye or EyeToy webcam.[119] The Network menu allows online shopping through the PlayStation Store and connectivity to the PlayStation Portable via Remote Play.[

Play Sttion Hardware

The PlayStation 3 is convex on its left side when vertical (the top side is convex when horizontal), and has a glossy black finish with the PlayStation logo on the left side.[86] Playstation designer Teiyu Goto stated that the Spider-Man font-inspired logo "was one of the first elements [SCEI president Ken Kutaragi] decided on and the logo may have been the motivating force behind the shape of PS3."[87]

The PlayStation 3 features a slot-loading 2x speed Blu-ray Disc drive for games, Blu-ray movies, DVDs, CDs, and other optical media.[88] It was originally available with hard drives of 20 and 60 GB (only the 60 GB model was available in PAL regions).[17][89] An 80 GB model has since been introduced in NTSC regions,[90] and a 40 GB model has been introduced in all regions.[91][92] All PS3 models have user-upgradeable 2.5" SATA hard drives.[93]

The PlayStation 3 uses the Sony, Toshiba, IBM-designed Cell microprocessor as its CPU, which is made up of one 3.2GHz PowerPC-based "Power Processing Element" (PPE) and eight Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs). [94] The eighth SPE is disabled to improve chip yields.[95][96] Only six of the seven SPEs are accessible to developers as the seventh SPE is reserved by the OS.[96] Graphics processing is handled by the NVIDIA RSX 'Reality Synthesizer', which can output resolutions from 480i/576i SD up to 1080p HD.[88] The PlayStation 3 has 256 MB of XDR main memory and 256 MB of GDDR3 video memory for the RSX.[97]

The system has Bluetooth 2.0, gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0 and HDMI 1.3a built in on all currently shipping models.[88] Wi-Fi networking is also built-in on the 40, 60 and 80 GB models while a flash card reader (compatible with Memory Stick, SD/MMC, and CompactFlash/Microdrive media) is built-in on 60 GB and CECHExx 80 GB models.[88][97] The system supports up to 7 controllers that are connected via Bluetooth 2.0 technology.[98]

The PS3's hardware has also been used to build supercomputers for high-performance computing.[99] Terra Soft Solutions has a version of Yellow Dog Linux for the PlayStation 3,[100] and sells PS3s with Linux pre-installed,[101] in single units, and 6 and 32 node clusters.[102] In addition, RapidMind is pushing their stream programming package for the PS3.[103] Also, on January 3, 2007, Dr. Frank Mueller, Associate Professor of Computer Science at NCSU, clustered 8 PS3s. Mueller commented that the 256 MB of system RAM is a limitation for this particular application, and is considering attempting to retrofit more RAM. Software includes: Fedora Core 5 Linux ppc64, MPICH2, OpenMP v 2.5, GNU Compiler Collection and CellSDK 1.1.[104][105][106]

On March 22, 2007, SCE and Stanford University released the Folding@home project for the PlayStation 3.[107] This program allows PS3 owners to lend the computing power of their consoles to help study the physical process of protein folding.

Play Station Sales and production costs

The PlayStation 3's initial production cost is estimated to have been US$805.85 for the 20 GB model and US$840.35 for the 60 GB model.[71] However, they were priced at US$499 and US$599 respectively,[72] meaning that every unit was sold at an estimated loss of $250,[71] contributing to Sony's games division posting an operating loss of ¥232.3 billion (US$1.97 billion) in the fiscal year ending March 2007.[73] In April 2007, soon after these results were published, Ken Kutaragi, President of Sony Computer Entertainment, announced plans to retire. Various news agencies, including The Times[74] and The Wall Street Journal[75] reported that this was due to poor sales, whilst SCEI maintains that Kutaragi had been planning his retirement for six months prior to the announcement.[75]

In January 2008, Kaz Hirai, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, suggested that the console may start making a profit by early 2009, stating that, "the next fiscal year starts in April and if we can try to achieve that in the next fiscal year that would be a great thing" and, "that (profitability) is not a definite commitment, but that is what I would like to try to shoot for".[76] However, market analysts Nikko Citigroup have predicted that the PlayStation 3 could be profitable by August 2008.[77] In a July 2008 interview, Hirai stated that his objective is for the PlayStation 3 to sell 150 million units by its ninth year, surpassing the PlayStation 2's sales of 140 million in its nine years on the market.[78] In January 2009 Sony announced that their gaming division was profitable in Q3 2008.[79]

Since the system's launch, production costs have been reduced significantly as a result of phasing out the Emotion Engine chip and falling hardware costs.[80][81] The cost of manufacturing Cell microprocessors has fallen dramatically as a result of moving to the 65 nm production process,[81][82] and Blu-ray diodes have become cheaper to manufacture.[80][83] As of January 2008, each unit costs around $400 to manufacture.[84][85]

Sony History

Sony officially unveiled the PlayStation 3 to the public on May 16, 2005, during the E3 2005 conference.[19] A functional version of the system was not present there,[20] nor at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2005,[21] although demonstrations (such as Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots[20]) were held at both events on devkits and comparable PC hardware.[20][21] Video footage based on the predicted PlayStation 3 specifications was also shown (notably a Final Fantasy VII tech demo).[22]

The initial prototype shown in May 2005 featured two HDMI ports, three Ethernet ports and six USB ports;[23] however, when the system was shown again a year later at E3 2006, these were reduced to one HDMI port, one ethernet port and four USB ports, presumably to cut costs.[16][24] Two hardware configurations were also announced for the console: a 20 GB model and a 60 GB model, priced at $499 (€499) and $599 (€599), respectively.[16] The 60 GB model would be the only configuration to feature an HDMI port, Wi-Fi internet, flash card readers and a chrome trim with the logo in silver.[16] Both models were announced for a simultaneous worldwide release: November 11 for Japan, and November 17 for North America and Europe.[25]

On September 6, 2006, Sony announced that the PAL region (Europe and Oceania) PlayStation 3 launch would be delayed until March 2007, due to a shortage of materials used in the Blu-ray Disc drive.[26]

At the Tokyo Game Show on September 22, 2006, Sony announced that it would include an HDMI port on the 20 GB system, but a chrome trim, flash card readers, silver logo, and Wi-Fi would not be included.[27] Also, the launch price of the Japanese 20 GB model was reduced by over 20%,[28] and the 60 GB model was announced for an open pricing scheme in Japan.[28] During the event, Sony showed 27 playable PS3 games running on final hardware.[29]

PlayStation 3

The PlayStation 3 (officially marketed PLAYSTATION 3,[5] commonly abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment, and the successor to the PlayStation 2 as part of the PlayStation series. The PlayStation 3 competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.

A major feature that distinguishes the PlayStation 3 from its predecessors is its unified online gaming service, the PlayStation Network,[6] which contrasts with Sony's former policy of relying on game developers for online play.[7] Other major features of the console include its robust multimedia capabilities,[8] connectivity with the PlayStation Portable,[9] and its use of a high-definition optical disc format, Blu-ray Disc, as its primary storage medium.[10] The PS3 was also the first Blu-ray 2.0-compliant Blu-ray player on the market.[11]

The PlayStation 3 was first released on November 11, 2006 in Japan,[12] November 17, 2006 in North America,[13] and March 23, 2007 in Europe and Oceania.[14][15] Two SKUs were available at launch: a basic model with a 20 GB hard drive (HDD), and a premium model with a 60 GB hard drive and several additional features[16] (the 20 GB model was not released in Europe or Oceania).[17] Since then, several revisions have been made to the console's available models.

101 Dalmatians - Escape from De Vil Manor

Rooftop Over Kitchen
--------------------
Get to the rooftop by clicking on the bed in young
Cruella's bedroom. Click on the flowerpot to plug
the hole in the roof. This will allow you to click
on the Trellis on the other side of the roof. Once you
have done that, you are on your way to the attic.

Attic
-----
There is a way out of the Manor in this room. You must go
up the pull-down stairs in the ceiling. To reach the stairs,
the trunk must be moved below them. To move the trunk, it
must be emptied. The trunk opens with the combination to
the lock. The combination is on the right-hand wall in
Nanny's room that is revealed behind a flap of wallpaper
from a breeze when the window is opened. You can open the
window when you jump from the bed to the windowsill. Click
on the trunk and the combination will automatically be entered.

Game Room
---------
The game room offers another way out of the Manor. When you
make too much noise (i.e., barking) downstairs near Horace
and Jasper, you will get thrown into the game room. If you
get thrown in the game room a fourth time, the door slams
behind you and knocks the pool rack loose. Get the balls
back into the rack and move the rack by the door. Bark to
summon Horace, who will open the door and step on the balls!
He will run into the wall with his backside facing you.
The Rhino head falls on Whizzer's head; when you click on
what's left of Horace, Whizzer will ram him and you will be
outside!

let the dog do all the work to trap Horace.

Level 3: Getting on the pillar:
-------------------------------
Once you get to level 3, Piccadilly, talk to Fidget. Follow her to the town square.
Talk to her at the town square and she will tell you about the pillar. Find the four
smaller statues and press 3 when you are close to them. After the pillar is as low as
it can go, jump on it and press 3 to go up. When you are at the top, jump off.
There will be a surprise on top of the pillar.

Level 15: Trapping Lepelt:
--------------------------
In level 15, Spooky Forest, go to a place where you see a log. Make sure you talk to
Crystal first. After you talk to Crystal, try to leave that area by going past the tree
farthest away from the log. Lepelt will see you. Then, run back to the log.
Then, the puppy will do the work.

letters to
get to that point in the game:

trying to mimic.

12 O'Clock High - Bombing the Reich

Hints
-----
As the Allies, you should watch from which airfields
enemy interceptors are launching, then bomb and fighter
-sweep those fields the next day to pound the enemy
fighters on the ground.

As the Axis, do not overcommit to the first raid that
you pick up, because it can often be a feint. Plot your
intercepts to harass a bomber stream over the length of
its route, instead of doing one large cluster attack,
which leaves you without any follow-up ability for quite
some time.

As far as fighter combat goes, escorts should always have
at least one group flying high cover at 3,000 to 5,000
feet above the main group, and interceptors should be set
to take this high cover into account.

Face Hugger Tip:
----------------
Submitted by: Dj Simo

When you play as the facehugger in the first part of
the alien campign you have to get a person by themself
to get a host. Keep going until you reach the guy sleeping
in a chair. Don't waste your time listening to people talk
or waiting for one guy to leave. Just keep going until you
reach the guy sleeping in a chair.

More of a Strategy:
-------------------
Submitted by: Dj Simo

When fighting a tough character as the Predator (i.e.
the Queen), and are low on health and/or energy, use the
energy pistols secondary fire to stun them. This will give
you just enough time to heal yourself or use the energy sift.

Hints:
------
Never use the pulse grenades in closed compartments or
near essential pickups (pickups are destructible).
If you are surrounded or trapped, use the burst fire.

Ignore all the Weyland-Yutani canisters strewn all over
the level. None of these contain anything of value.

Ignore searching for loot inside crates. There are no
destructible crates.

Steam does not hurt. Smoking does...

Do not try to open doors that are locked.
There is no way you can open these.

Unlock all misions:
-------------------
Submitted by: SNOTKOP "AKA Troffel"
E-mail: meownz@webmail.co.za

Go to your AvP directory and find the folder "Profiles", in the "Profiles"
folder you will find a text ".txt" file with your player name/s.

Open your player text ".txt" file and scroll down till you find the caracter
name such as "[Alien]", under each name you will see the the following:

"LevelStatus = (DWORD)284646098", now where the bunch off numbers are just
replace them with the folowing numbers, each caracter
has diferent numbers, so do like so:

[Alien]
LevelStatus = (DWORD)2846460546

[Marine]
LevelStatus = (DWORD)2846460556

[Predator]
LevelStatus = (DWORD)2846460576

HEHE, now all ur levels are unlocked, OK! I gave my end of the deal,

Strange guard voices:
---------------------
Enable the mpmillertime code and go to any level. Go near a
guard and he will have a high voice and sounded as if he is drunk.

Quick minigun fire:
-------------------
In single player or multi-player mode, select the minigun and press
[Secondary Fire]. The minigun will "warm up" and constantly spin the
barrels until press [Secondary Fire] again or switch to another weapon.
While this feature is active, the minigun will fire immediately after
pressing [Fire] -- it no longer needs to "spin up" or "spin down",
and will also fire more accurately. Using this technique will allow
you to easily wipe out the Praetorian Aliens or Assault Predators.
Note: In multi-player mode, only the Corporate AT officer can use
the minigun as a set weapon, and they are very rare weapons in a
normal multi-player game.

Queen head bite:
----------------
Start any mission, then enable the mpmorph drone code. Next,
go up to a civilian and get into head bite position, but do not kill
him. Enable the mpmorph queen code. Note: The head bite will
be your only attack; use it carefully.

Killing the Alien Queen easily:
-------------------------------
When playing as a Predator, select your shoulder cannon then charge
a shot by holding the Right Mouse Button. This will consume a small
amount of energy, but you can recharge it by pressing T. After that,
the game automatically returns to the shoulder cannon. Notice that
the shot is still loaded, and causes a lot of damage. Go to the Queen
at a safe distance with electric view and fire. Then, just keep moving
in circles walking backwards and shooting without charging the shoulder
cannon. When your energy is out, use the spear weapon to finish it. A
few blows should do the trick. After that, kill the other aliens that
appear then move to her head. Use your blades and keep attacking the
head. It will increase your trophy number.

Alien follow-the-leader:
------------------------
This trick will cause an Alien to follow you a short distance, and
usually turn its back and appear to watch for enemies. Enter a level
that has Aliens. It can be any level, even a non-Alien one, as long
as you use a mpmorph code to turn into an Alien. When you get to a
point where there us not a combat situation and there is an Alien
around, get near it. Use your Claw attack on the ground. Try not to
hurt the Alien, then quickly run or walk backwards to make sure the
Alien is following you. This strategy is not foolproof.
Note: Some Aliens, especially in the Alien Campaign levels, seem to
have a limited "territory." Also, sometimes in the Marine levels an Alien
will follow you and end up standing in the steam and kill itself. Also,
an Alien on the ground will not follow you onto the ceiling;
it will stand by the wall.

Disc with a no disc predator:
-----------------------------
In multi-player mode join or make (recommended) a small level. Bunker
is good. Be a predator which has a disc when you spawn. Throw the disc
somewhere you can quickly get too and press [F1] to change to a no
disc predator. There is only one, which is called Assault. When you
spawn again, press the disc retrieval key (default is F). The disc
should actually come to you. You will have the disc but for some
reason you cannot use it, even though the item indicator shows that
you picked it up.

Aliens Vs. Predator

Firstly: You must have the AvP save-game patch installed.
www.foxinteraktive.com

Secondly: Add -lampcxtr -debug to the command line.
ie: "C:\Fox\Aliens Versus Predator" -lampcxtr -debug
Then when in the mission press the tilde (~) key to
bring down the console and then you can type the
following codes:

"QUICKSAVE"/"QUICKLOAD" which always save/load to/from
the first save slot.
"SAVE #"/"LOAD #" (# is a number from 1-8) which save/load
to/from slot number #. "SAVESLEFT" displays how many saves
the player has remaining in the current level at the current
difficulty. This number is also displayed any time a game is
saved or loaded.

Normal Console Commands and Variables
--------------------------------------
The following CONSOLE VARIABLES are made available
(replace the # sign with a number), in-game help is
available by typing the "LISTVAR" command at the console:

"MOTIONTRACKERVOLUME" - this is set at its maximum of 1.0 by
default, the volume of the tracker
can be reduced by changing this number
(e.g. to 0.75 or0.5).

"CROUCHMODE" - this new console command allows players to change the
Aliens crouch/crawl to a toggle on/off key by typing
"CROUCHMODE 1" at the console. "CROUCHMODE 0" changes
back to the default setting.

Debugging Console Commands and Variables
----------------------------------------
Advanced users may now access some of the game's internal
debugging commands (which include features such as immortality)
by running the game with the command line option "-debug"
(e.g. "AVP.exe -debug").

In this mode Multiplayer is not available, levels will not be
flagged as completed, and no new official cheat modes will
become available. This basically means that players can
examine a level to which they already have access with
invulnerability, infinite weapons, etc. but can't open
up any new game levels or features.

The following CONSOLE COMMANDS are made available by this option,
in-game help is available by typing in "LISTCMD" at the console:

"GOD" - makes the player immortal: player will still take damage,
but will not die when they reach zero health.

"GIVEALLWEAPONS" - self-explanatory.

"SHOWFPS" - displays the current frame-rate per second on-screen.

"SHOWPOLYCOUNT" - displays the number of rendered polygons per
frame on-screen.

"LIGHT" - creates a light source near the player. Repeated use
makes a brighter and brighter light.

Bot console commands:
---------------------
"ALIENBOT" - creates an Alien in front of the player.
"MARINEBOT #" - creates a Marine (or civilian) of type #.
"PREDOBOT #" - creates a Predator of type #.
"PREDALIENBOT" - creates a Predator-Alien.
"PRAETORIANBOT" - creates a Praetorian Alien.
"XENOBORG" - creates a Xenoborg.

Note: creating bots may cause crashes and unexpected game behavior.
For a bot to be created its model must exist in the current level;
however, the models may be forced to be loaded through a command
line option. Add "-l" followed by a list of letters corresponding
to the characters you want to load:

The following CONSOLE VARIABLES are made available (replace
the # sign with a number), in-game help is available by typing
the "LISTVAR" command at the console:

"MOTIONTRACKERSPEED" - allows the player to speed up/slow down the
pulse rate of the Marine's motion tracker
(range from 0-16, default is 1).

"TIMESCALE #" - change the rate at which time flows in the game,
e.g. "TIMESCALE 0.5" will make time pass at half
the normal speed. For those interested, the
"JohnWooMode" cheat uses this effect dynamically,
so that time passes slower the more action is
happening on screen.

"WIREFRAMEMODE #" - display the environment and/or characters using
wireframe graphics.

"DOPPLERSHIFT #" - enable/disable the Doppler shifting on the Alien
player's sounds.

"SKY_RED #" - change the red component in a sky.

"SKY_GREEN #" - change the green component in a sky.

"SKY_BLUE #" - change the blue component in a sky.

"LEANSCALE #" - change the amount the camera tilts when side-stepping.

Infinite Grenades in Co-Op Mode:
--------------------------------
Submitted by: Dj Simo

Start a Co-Op game on a level of your choice. Choose
Marine-Grenade as your class. You have three classes of
grenades: Normal, Frag, and Proximity Mine. Shoot off all
rounds of your two least favorite types. After all of two
types of grenades have been fired off, fire off all of your
favorite type of grenade. After you are completely out of
grenade ammo, press the button you have set as secondary
fire. You should now have a just about infinite amount of
your favorite type of grenades.

Hints:
------
In multiplayer, Marines will find that it's a good
tactic to stand back-to-back and be ready for anything.
One should cover the floor, with the other watching the
ceiling.

Take your time as the Predator. Use your blaster on the
Aliens; the spear gun and shoulder launcher are ideal
for killing humans.

When playing as the Alien, rush your victims while keeping
the action key depressed. You'll slice and dice like a
Cuisinart.
